The secret of Feelings

BOOK REVIEW - 7

Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Saenz

I was pursuing my graduation in English majors when I came across this book. I didn't know anything about the book and hence mistook this to be related to the real Aristotle, the famous Greek Philosopher, and Dante the renowned Italian poet.

Down with this first page, I was disappointed to know that it's not about them. And that was the only disappointment that I had with the book. The book is the story of two boys named Aristotle and Dante and their "simple" adventure through life and love, that they embark on together.
To say the least the book is the love story of the two boys. But what makes the book wholesome and beautiful is the conversation and the character of the two boys. Every aspect of the book, be it the plot, the relationships, the love, or the characters is just perfect.

The boys are just teenagers, but when you read this book as adults, it is extremely thought-provoking and stimulating. I have a habit of anointing in my books, and this is by far my most annotated one. Every line, every phrase will resonate with you so much, that you will constantly have the expression of awe and happiness on your face.

When the book says that they discover the secrets of the universe, it meant the secret of the feelings. Feelings are the only things that unite all the humans and the creatures on the planet and we embark on this adventure if discovery along with the two boys.

It is not just the main characters that steal your heart, but the supporting characters too. Dante's mother's relationship with Aristotle is the whole other level of understanding and compassion that will warm your heart even further.

Give this book a read and you will feel as if all your sorrows have been squeezed out of you with a hug. Guaranteed!
