Shiv Raatri Special

BOOK REVIEW - 6

THE SHIVA TRILOGY by AMISH TRIPATHY

Tomorrow is Shiv Ratri so I thought why not talk about Shiva and his story that was beautifully retold by an Indian author.

I will start by mentioning that one thing that made me pick this book to read. The summary of the book on its back has these words "The story of a man that legend turned into a God"

Some time back in my blog, I had mentioned that I was not a believer in god. And it was this time that I had picked up this book, and I was blown away. This was my first mythological fiction. I was so much in awe that the things that we are made to believe and are not allowed to question had been explained in such a logical, tangible way that it will appeal to everyone.

We have been told so much about gods and their magical realm of stories which are hard to believe as we grow up. Amish just bridged this difference very efficiently.

Never had anyone ever made an attempt to portray a religion-based story in a humanly possible way and that is what made this trilogy so special. This trilogy consists of the first part named "The immortals of Meluha" the second as "The secret of the Nagas" and the last one called "The oath of the Vayuputras."

It follows the story of an ordinary man who is believed to be a messiah, but in spite of that, he has to prove himself to be worthy of that respect and belief of people. It is the story of a common man who rises to great ranks due to his abilities, skills, and dexterity. As it says, he was not born a god, his actions and good karma for people made him so. His compassion and the zeal to work for people made him a God over time.

Read on to witness this amazing journey.

The series is a complete package of action, story, surprises, social issues, a swooning love story. Everything.
If you are looking for a good, gripping read then pick the first book, and I promise you, you will be getting your hands on the second book desperately.

Honestly, I didn't enjoy the last book so much. It toned down the quality of the story, but the 1st and 2nd parts are great.
the writing style of this book is very simple and totally beginner-friendly.
Tomorrow is the day of Shiva, so how about celebrating it by reading this amazing book about him?

Well, book nerd alert.

Not just his books but I also love the kind of views and knowledge Amish Tripathy imparts through his lectures and talks. Click here to listen to one of his podcasts and believe me you will be in awe of his views.

P.S: Shiva is really handsome in this. So if nothing, read it for that 😜

  1. While you're right about the third part being toned down but there are certain instances in the third part that are so epic that it absolutely crushed the greatest scenes from the previous installments. For example, the moment when Kartik went rage mode and we cam to know why he was call 'The God of War'. Another one of these moment is shown when shiva launches the Bramhastra. He rushes back with his horse but then he sees Sati running behind him. Shiva then crashes down and runs tows that illusion of Sati. The shere excruciating pain that was conveyed at that moment was just out of this world.
