Kafka on the Shore

BOOK REVIEW- 3

KAFKA ON THE SHORE by Haruki Murakami.

If you are to ask me about the weirdest and most mind-bending book, I ever read, this would be it. Hands down!

Kafka on the shore simultaneously follows the journey of two characters. Tamura Kafka, a 15-year-old boy who runs away from home and finds solace at a library, amidst books, and Mr. Nakata who can talk to cats and is the character who mostly is associated with all the weird elements of the book.

Once, a friend of mine had told me This book is magic. This book is a dream and Murakami is a wizard”. And it is true. You call it magic because how else will one justify the magical weirdness that Murakami puts in front of you on the plate. This book will bend over every belief, convention, and imagination, forcing you to see and perceive things in an absolutely different way. This book surpasses every realm of imagination. That's a guarantee.

While reading you are being pulled to present a parallel reality that connects Kafka and Mr.Nakata. Their destinies are so closely knit that it is bound to get to think about each page you read twice,

The book is an imaginary treat of magical realism, historical time travel, and the hidden underworld. Apart from the two protagonists, you will meet a variety of whimsical characters with mysterious and unexpected mindsets.

Talking about the title, I interpreted "shore" as the border between the conscious and the unconscious minds. Digging deep into it, it's the borderline where we all live.

The perk of reading Murakami is that it gives us the liberty to interpret the story as it deems to us in uncountable ways.

Tell me how was your journey with the book.
